Lots of good stuff just released in AIM for Windows and Mac.

Updates

Lifestream is back! We’ve brought over your Facebook and Twitter accounts, Instagram is newly available and YouTube will be coming soon.

To add these services, just click the icons on the left side bar of your contact list. Click the updates icon (under the chat bubble) to see your feed. Cross post your status to Facebook and Twitter too. You can edit, add, and remove your services from preferences anytime.
Look for Lifestream to make its way back into AIM for iPhone and Android later this Fall.

Sounds

Missing the classic IM sent sound? No problem, open your AIM preferences (now available from the dot dot dot button on the side bar), choose the sound tab, open the options by selecting edit. Then choose “Play the classic AIM sound”. If you prefer to set your own custom sound, select the “Choose file” button and browse to a sound on your machine.

Chat logs

Want to store a copy of your chats on your computer? No problem. AIM for Window now offers this feature. For your privacy, you’ll need to opt into it. Open preferences, and select the box next to Choose how your messages are saved, “Store and save a copy of my chats on my computer”.

Is your account up to date?

Don’t wait until it’s too late, make sure you have your latest email and an account security question tied to your AIM account. This will ensure if your account gets compromised or you lose access to your email you can still log into AIM. It’s pretty simple, and should only take you a min!

Go to http://myaccount.aol.com/. Once you are logged in, you can update your account by clicking on manage my account details, update my contact information. You can add/change your security question by clicking on manage username, update/change my account security question.

Seeing suspicious activity message when you try to log in?

Most likely your account’s been hacked and is sending spam. Reset your password http://password.aol.com/ and this should get you back in a good state.

Buddy groups are back in AIM for Mac and Windows and AIM.com

Earlier this year we launched the new AIM with a redesigned way to organize your contacts. We heard from a lot of you who missed your custom groups. We listened, so now your groups are right where you left them.

Don’t worry, if you’ve come to love your list without custom groups, you can easily hide them. Simply go to your menu, choose “Contacts” then deselect “Show custom groups”. We promise we’ll get them back in our mobile apps soon.

New in AIM for Windows and Mac

We’ve heard size matters. So, we’ve updated AIM Desktop to let you choose the width of your contact list.
Simply drag the right edge, between your list and chat history, to the left to make it smaller. Happy chatting!

Yikes, logging into aim.com to chat is busted :(

You may have noticed logging into to AIM.com is a no go since earlier today. We’re working hard to fix the problem. In the meantime, you can use AIM Express. http://www.aim.com/products/express to chat on the web.
